This note ends the review of Piriform products . True, this company does not have many of them (products) - the CCleaner cleaner, the Recuva file recovery tool , and here is the hero of this note - the Defraggler defragmenter. Anyone who uses any of the above-mentioned programs will not let me lie - they work great, once again proving that free software can compete equally with commercial software.
Defraggler is a program for defragmenting hard drives of a computer running the Windows operating system. Unlike the standard utility built into the system, Defraggler allows you to defragment not only the entire disk, but also its individual files , which allows you to carry out this procedure faster and better.
The main advantages of Defraggler (information from the program website
— Defragmentation of individual files. Most defragmentation tools allow you to do this only with the entire disk. Defraggler gives you the ability to select individual files and folders. This significantly reduces the time it takes to complete the job. Of course, there is the ability to defragment the entire disk.
— Small and portable. Defraggler is created on the same compact principle as other Piriform products (CCleaner and Recuva). The result is one compact file (less than one megabyte). It can be copied to a flash drive and used wherever you want without installation.
— Works in Windows Vista. Defraggler supports all operating systems starting from Windows 2000 (Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista). Recently, support for 64-bit versions of Windows was also added. Defraggler can defragment disks in both NTFS and FAT32 systems.
— File location on disk. After analysis, Defraggler displays a list of all fragmented files on the disk. If you select one or more, their location on the disk will be displayed.
— Free. Defraggler is a completely free program. And not only for home use, but also for any commercial use.
Well, the official part of the presentation shopify website design is over. Basically, everything that was said above accurately describes the advantages of Defraggler. Let's now try to look at this program through the eyes of a simple user:
Defraggler is the youngest of the Piriform programs. This is indicated by the prefix “beta” after the version number, and the absence of any settings in the program, and the fact that Defraggler (unlike CCleaner and Recuva) “speaks” only English… Although it is possible that the lack of settings is “just the way it is supposed to be”. Everything is already perfectly configured
Using Defraggler is easy. The program window is divided into three parts: the top one displays all the hard drives present in the system, the middle part shows the state of the files on this drive, and the bottom one shows a list of these files. The main control buttons (there are only three of them) are also located at the bottom - to the right of the list.
To check the disk status, select it and click “ Analyze ”. You will get something like this (this disk is not very busy for me
White cells represent space that is not yet filled, blue cells represent unfragmented files, red cells represent fragmented files, mustard cells (if it is really mustard cells ) represent parts that cannot be defragmented, and purple cells represent reserved space.
If you now select one or more files in the list, their location on the disk will also be shown. To defragment files, mark the necessary ones with a “check mark” and click on “ Defrag ”. If you want to defragment the entire disk, mark all files (put a “check mark” next to “ Filename ”) or use the corresponding menu item:
I haven't done any special measurements, but it seems to me that the program isn't very fast at defragmenting. Although this may be a subjective feeling.
During the defragmentation process, you can observe the movement of data on the disk (if anyone is interested, the sectors from which data is read are highlighted in yellow, and those where it is written are highlighted in green.
When the work is finished, Defraggler will display a corresponding message. If some files were not defragmented, this will also be reported.
